Hi everybody! Another week in the books! If you are in the US, then Happy Thanksgiving this week! Like always, this is the general manga discussion thread. All your random hot takes, questions, or recommendations can find a home here. Some examples are below:
- Rent a Girlfriend is a masterpiece! Allow me to explain all the ways…
- I just finished Domestic Girlfriend and am looking for similar recommendations
- What the heck is a cultivator and why are there so many stories about them?
Like normal, please be careful with spoilers. I wrote a guide about spoilers in case you need a refresher on how to handle them (also linked in the sidebar).
There are a couple things I wanted to highlight from the past week in manga for me. First I picked up a couple series to check out:
- Ri-chan - Been a lot of fun. Super quick 1 page chapters, so they fly by. Better than I thought it would be based on the synopsis.
- Akuyaku Ouji no Eiyuutan - Still really early in this series. I picked it up becuase I saw it was being TL’ed by one of my favorite trashy isekai scanlator groups, LHTranslations. This one is just fantasy, not isekai, but fits the mold. I will probably stick with this one for a bit to see how it goes, but my expectations are not super high.
- The Dungeon That Kills All Adventurers - Picked this one up randomly based on the different art style which makes it feel actually pretty Western. The first couple chapters I read haven’t really captured me, but I want to give it a few more before I write it off completely.
There are also a couple series that are coming back from a bit of a break that I am glad to see returning:
- Hanging Out with a Gamer Girl - This series is back after a bit of a break. My understanding is that the TL group tends to let a couple chapters pile up and then TL and release them in batches. So, I expect a handful of chapters over the next couple days. I really like this series and I think it is the only fully colored series I read, making it a bit unique in that respect.
- Go-senpai’s Counselling Session - This one is really stupid, but I really like it. I can’t really put my finger on it, but the humor really clicks with me in this one. It kind of feels like early Komi-san with all the kooky characters at the school and an FMC that hardly speaks.
If you like incredibly dark stuff and you liked the few anime episodes of Dark Gathering, then you’ll love the manga. The only sad part is that it’s a bit slow (so don’t try to binge-read it) and there doesn’t seem to be a very active scanlation team as the latest translated chapter is still behind the raws. Apart from the dark/horror stuff, it also has lots of hilarious scenes, and Yayoi is a good mix of kawaii and badass.
