Went into S1 with no expectations and was really impressed. Great romance anime with believable character development and zero cringe. Excited for the follow up.

S1 was a fairly bog-standard isekai that only served as a vehicle to celebrate Japan’s vending machine culture.
If you’re looking for a great story, you won’t find it here. But if you find the premise amusing, and the Japanese obsession with vending machines interesting, then it’s some good mindless fun.
Did this show get any better?
Apparently, the source material is supposed to be good. I gave it three episodes but was pretty disappointed by the animation quality and pacing.
Wondering if anyone who stuck with it thinks it’s worth it.
The turtle arc that takes up the whole first half of the season is boring as hell, but IMO the second half redeems it somewhat. Skip forward until you don’t see the turtle and watch from there.
Or skip to S3. Not like the plot is deep and complex and you’ll be left wondering what’s going on.
I can no longer tell the difference between incredibly shit writing and AI-generated incredibly shit writing.
His narration throughout the episode adds depth to his character, giving viewers insight into his thoughts and emotions. The moment he realizes what it means to have a real family is especially poignant. This emotional aspect of TBATE sets it apart from typical reincarnation stories and lays a strong foundation for Arthur’s growth.
Human slop? AI slop? Who even knows anymore?
Good mindless fun these first two episodes. It seems like they’re setting the stage for some more serious plot turns. I do hope MC wises up eventually, or we figure out why everyone from his “village” has godlike powers.
A little disappointed with this episode. MC was pretty normal up until now, and then this episode had a full-blown episode of pantsu psychosis.
I did enjoy the scene where they peer out from the bushes at about eight goblins standing around and elf girl responds “looks like about four or five hundred of them.” A lot of meme potential in that one.
I’m still on board, but I love trash isekai.
Yeah, but only if Newton is isekai’d to a lower-mass world with a smaller G constant, so the apple falls more slowly.
I feel like they would need to go much more complex and interesting on the theory of magic in the show in order to support this slow pacing.
It’s an interesting premise - how do people originally figure out that magic exists and how they learn to control those powers? We usually see worlds where magic is already established.
But you’re spot-on about the pacing. Glacially slow and just not interesting enough in terms of discovering how the magic in this world works.
Agreed. I went in with no real expectations at all and it ended up being a really sweet and sincere love story with gradual, believable character development. This is first I’ve heard of Season 2 so I’m stoked!
I knew there was a second season but it had completely escaped my notice it was happening so soon! I can’t wait for the return of our Sherlock of the Imperial Court. This one and Frieren were probably tied for my favorite show in a year with a lot of great entries.
Fast metabolism
Oh, did you think we were done after “Reincarnated as a Vending Machine”?
Life imitates art, as they say.
In about 60 hours of playtime, Luce will be level 99 and set off to kill God. What have they unleashed?
The recent film Blue Giant is great. About a young man who moves to Tokyo from rural Japan to pursue his love of jazz. Great visuals and music.
It’s mainly the fault of the people around him for not cluing him in. I get that he’s been beat down and told he was worthless his whole life. But you’d imagine at least someone would exclaim some praise after he beats one of these legendary monsters.
It does seem to be turning a corner but it drove me crazy the first few episodes. I was so glad when Ossan Newbie dropped the act after two episodes.
Yeah, and it’s very hard to predict based on isekai titles whether you’re going to encounter that kind of worthwhile passion project or one of the very silly ones.
I actually avoided Slime for a couple years because the title didn’t draw me in - I though it sounded uninspired and derivative just based on the name. Little did I know I was missing out on one of the most interesting and complex isekai worlds until I gave it a shot and was immediately hooked.
I’m really enjoying it but I also understand the other view. I would say it might be more fun to binge all at once since we’re waiting a week between multiple episodes with worldbuilding/slice-of-life without the story advancing far. But I’m a longtime Civilization and SimCity fan and honestly some of my favorite parts of the show are about building up the JTF and the diplomacy with other nations.
Holy shit that was dark.
