It’s not an anime, per se, but the writing, voice acting and such are very much like an anime in the Like a Dragon series of games. Where it currently sits, all the characters are middle-aged or older. It also has a lot of existential dialogue and side stories that are extremely poignant, as someone who is also middle-aged in this time period.

The only actual anime I could even think of with main characters my age or older that I also enjoy is Cowboy Bebop; and that’s about 50-50 because of Faye and Edward. I’ve seen some episodes of Bartender but I wouldn’t go so far as to say I enjoy it yet. It’s a bit dry.

I hope the audio mastering is better than SAC. I thought maybe it was just adult swim, but every source, including the DVDs has hella low dialogue audio that in many scenes is completely blown out by the music.

Trigun, Cowboy Bebop, Ghost in the Shell, Ninja Scroll, Fullmetal Alchemist and everything by Studio Ghibli I can NOT recommend because after seeing them, all other anime looks like childish crap by comparison. They’ve ruined me, don’t let the same fate befall you!

Wikipedia says in Japanese TV production it’s used to refer to production of about 11-13 episodes, which was the first thing that popped up when I searched the word.

I dunno about Go Bots, but Transformers certainly went hard. I still remember it as the only cartoon of my childhood where the good guys routinely lost compared to everything else where the good guys always prevailed every episode.

I have to wonder what the demographics are actually like in Japan, because most anime I’ve seen makes black people, especially, complete stereotypes or treated as exotic. Or both. Quite often, the depiction of black people in anime is the lowest point of the anime for me because they’re often fairly racist caricatures.

Though to be fair, I’m more familiar with older anime than modern anime. Most of the stuff I like was made in the 80’s and 90’s.
