  • +1 for Black Lagoon, W anime pick.

Also for Ghost in the Shell, PatLabor, and Redline.

    I will also add on:

    • Jin-Roh/Jin-Rou (not the Korean live action from 2019), but it does briefly show a child on screen as a supporting character, and I dont remember if Kei was over 18-20 or not

    • AD Police Files, and its related series Parasite Dolls (unfortunately, the other related series Bubblegum Crisis and Bubblegum Crash are disqualified because Nene Romanov is 18 and Priss is 19, both under 20)

    • Space Dandy (maybe, that anime had like a billion characters and I dont remember if all of them were adults or not, but its not exactly a kid oriented anime)

  • Not sure where this falls into the 2020 renegotiated licenses and the agreement between Harmony Gold and Big West.

In basic terms, Harmony Gold won’t interfere or prevent Big West from bringing Macross content outside of Japan, and Big West wont interfere with Harmony Gold bringing Robotech content to Japan. Harmony Gold keeps all the existing licenses they already had from Tatsunoku.

Now interestingly, nothing has been stopping Big West from bringing Macross here to the US. To me, it seems like Big West just doesn’t care about any market outside of Japan. Its a common stance for a Japanese company to take, but it is a bit frustrating being a fan of both Robotech and Macross. Here we are 4 years since the agreement and Big West still has the floodgates shut. If Harmony Gold isn’t stopping them now, were they ever really the problem or just a scapegoat for Big West to blame their disinterest on the Western market? And what is preventing them now?

  • For me, the longest I have watched is Robotech, if you count it since it was technically three different anime originally.

Robotech did a mostly faithful (especially for the time) dub of the original SDF Macross, and then edited the story and footage more heavily for its 2nd and third arcs, which were from SDC Southern Cross and Genesis Climber MOSPEADA. Robotech came in at like, 85 episodes.

If Robotech doesn’t count, Overlord (52) is in 2nd with a very close 3rd plce by Sei Juushi Bismarck (51 episodes).

To me, a high episode count doesn’t always equate to quality. I once assumed that since anime like One Piece, Dragon Ball, and Naruto have such high episode counts, they HAVE to be good, but I just couldn’t get into them. They weren’t for me.

On the other hand, some shows I felt were way too short and wished they had more episodes. Anime like Bubblegum Crisis (not Tokyo 2040), Chobits, Heaven’s Lost Property, Claymore, Coffin Princess Chaika, etc. I liked them a lot and when they ended I just kept wishing there was more.
