This one was a good read. Thanks for sharing! It almost feels like a chapter 1 of a longer series.

You weren’t kidding. This could be a great Manga about personal growth and self worth. Not just about the Mc but also all the other familiars she helps. It’s reminiscent of frieren.

Would you happen to know if there are there any stories about one shots getting picked up later for serialization?

Lots and lots of the manga we read started as a oneshot at some point in time. Most of the time, those oneshots are never scanlated before the serialization starts, so we only ever get to consume the serialized version. Some instances I remember off the top of my head where both have been translated would be Ruridragon and Kimi to Picopico (though I am sure there are loads of others).

In general, there are only a couple ways you get a serialized manga:

        • Be a previously successful manga author/artist and get an idea picked up by a publication/editor.
        • Self-publish a series somewhere else on the internet (pixiv, twitter, etc.) and get enough of a following that a publication wants you.
        • Get a oneshot in a publication that garners enough positive attention from its readers and fills a content gap the magazine currently has.

The magazines basically use oneshots as a way to focus test story ideas with their readership to see which ones are well/poorly received.
